Donkey Kong was created by the legendary video game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, and developed by Nintendo. The game was first released in 1981 as an arcade title and introduced a simple yet addictive gameplay mechanic. Players controlled Jumpman, a carpenter who had to rescue a damsel in distress named Pauline from the clutches of a giant ape named Donkey Kong.
