Christian Bale stars as Detective Augustus Landon Carter, a retired New York City police detective who takes on a position at West Point as a professor of detective science. His character, although somewhat reticent, brings a city-hardened sensibility to the cloistered world of the military academy. The mystery deepens when the body of a cadet is found, and Carter is pulled into an investigation led by a seemingly incompetent local detective.
