Indonesian entertainment has a rich history, dating back to the pre-colonial era. Traditional forms of entertainment, such as wayang (shadow puppetry), gamelan music, and dance, were an integral part of Javanese and Balinese cultures. With the arrival of Western colonialism, Western-style entertainment, including films and music, was introduced to Indonesia. The country's entertainment industry began to take shape in the 1950s, with the establishment of the first film production company, Perfini.
